Come, Follow Me for Littles

Week of June 1–7, 2026

Ruth; 1 Samuel 1–7

One little story for each day of the week — short enough to read together, gentle enough for the very youngest, and true to the scriptures.

A kind older woman named Naomi and a younger woman named Ruth walking a country road together holding hands in soft golden light.

Ruth's Loving Choice

Ruth 1

Today's idea We can choose to love and stay close to the people who need us.

Long, long ago there lived a kind woman named Naomi. Naomi was far away from her old home, and her heart was feeling sad and lonely.

Naomi decided to take the long road back to her homeland, Israel, where the people loved Heavenly Father. She had a gentle daughter-in-law named Ruth.

“You may stay here if you want to,” Naomi told Ruth softly. But Ruth loved Naomi very much, and she wanted to follow Heavenly Father too.

So Ruth held Naomi's hand and said, “Where you go, I will go. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

Together they walked the long, long road to Israel. Ruth's loving choice helped Naomi's sad heart feel warm and happy again. Choosing love is a beautiful thing to do.

Kind in the Fields

Ruth 2

Today's idea Little acts of kindness make hearts feel warm.

When Ruth and Naomi reached Israel, they needed food to eat. So Ruth went out to a big golden field where workers were gathering grain.

Long ago, kind farmers would leave a little grain at the edges of their fields, so people who needed food could come and gather it. What a kind plan that was!

The field belonged to a good man named Boaz. When Boaz saw Ruth working so hard, he said, “Let her gather all she needs. And please, share our lunch with her.” He made sure Ruth was safe and cared for.

Ruth carried lots of grain home, and Naomi was so happy. Later, Ruth and Boaz became a family, and they had a sweet baby named Obed.

Heavenly Father was watching over this kind family the whole time. One day, baby Obed would even grow up to be the grandpa of a shepherd boy named David!

Hannah's Wish

1 Samuel 1

Today's idea We can tell Heavenly Father the wishes of our heart.

There was a woman named Hannah who loved Heavenly Father with all her heart. More than anything in the whole world, Hannah wished for a baby of her very own.

One day Hannah went to the temple, which is Heavenly Father's special house. There she talked quietly to Heavenly Father and told Him her biggest wish.

“If I may have a little boy,” she said, “I will help him serve You all his life.” Hannah trusted that Heavenly Father heard her.

And He did! After a while, Hannah had a sweet baby boy. She named him Samuel. Her heart was so full of happy that she could hardly stop smiling.

Heavenly Father loves to hear the wishes of our hearts. We can always tell Him what we are hoping for, just like Hannah did.

A Little Coat for Samuel

1 Samuel 2

Today's idea Even little children can help and serve.

When Samuel was still a young boy, Hannah kept her happy promise. She brought little Samuel to the temple to help a kind old prophet named Eli.

Samuel was small, but he did important jobs in Heavenly Father's house. He helped with a cheerful heart, and everyone loved him.

Every single year, Hannah made Samuel a brand-new little coat, sewn with all her love. She would bring it to him when she came to visit. How happy Samuel was to see his mother!

Samuel grew taller and kinder each year, and Heavenly Father was so pleased with him.

You can help too, even though you are little — at home, at church, and with your family. Helping hands make Heavenly Father smile.

Speak, I Am Listening

1 Samuel 3

Today's idea We can listen for Heavenly Father's quiet voice.

One night, young Samuel was lying down to sleep. Suddenly he heard a voice call, “Samuel!”

Samuel hopped up and ran to old Eli. “Here I am!” he said. But Eli said kindly, “I did not call you. Go lie back down.” This happened again, and then once more.

Then wise Eli understood — it was Heavenly Father calling little Samuel! Eli said, “If you hear the voice again, say, ‘Speak, Lord, I am listening.’”

Soon the voice called again: “Samuel!” And this time Samuel answered, “Speak, for I am listening.” Heavenly Father had a special message just for him.

Heavenly Father speaks to us too. Not with a loud voice, but with the Holy Ghost — a warm, quiet feeling that helps us know what is good and true.

The Helping Stone

1 Samuel 7

Today's idea We can remember the ways Heavenly Father helps us.

Samuel grew up to be a wise prophet. For a long time, some of God's people had forgotten to follow Him. So Samuel gathered everyone together.

“Let's come back to Heavenly Father with all our hearts,” Samuel said gently. The people felt sorry, and they happily chose to follow God again.

Heavenly Father watched over His people and kept them safe and cared for. He was so glad to have them close again.

To help everyone remember, Samuel set up a big stone. He gave it a special name that means, “The Lord has helped us all the way.”

Every time the people walked past that stone, they remembered how good Heavenly Father had been to them. We can remember too — every happy day and every helping hand is a gift from Him.

My Heart Is Happy

1 Samuel 2:1

Today's idea A thankful heart is a happy heart.

After baby Samuel was born, Hannah was so thankful that she sang a beautiful, happy song to Heavenly Father.

“My heart rejoiceth in the Lord!” she sang. To rejoice means to feel very, very happy. Hannah remembered that every good thing came from Heavenly Father.

This whole week we met people with happy, faithful hearts — Ruth, who chose love; Hannah, who trusted Heavenly Father; and little Samuel, who listened and served.

When we remember how much Heavenly Father loves us, our hearts can feel happy and full, just like Hannah's.

We can say thank you to Heavenly Father for our families, our friends, and His great love. A thankful heart is a happy heart.
