One little story for each day of the week — short enough to read together, gentle enough for the very youngest, and true to the scriptures.

Monday

David Was Brave

1 Samuel 17

Today's idea When we trust Heavenly Father, He helps us be brave.

David was a shepherd boy. Every day he took care of his family's sheep out in the green hills. He sang songs and talked to Heavenly Father while he worked. He felt safe because God was with him.

One day David went to visit his brothers. There was a very big, loud man named Goliath who was frightening all of God's people. Everyone was worried and afraid.

But David felt something different inside. He remembered all the times Heavenly Father had helped him when he was scared while watching the sheep at night. God had always been with him.

David said, “I am not afraid. Heavenly Father is with me.” He trusted God with his whole heart, and he went forward with courage. Because David believed, Heavenly Father helped him, and everything turned out all right.

Heavenly Father can help YOU be brave too. When something feels big and scary, you can say in your heart, “I am not alone. Heavenly Father is with me.”

Tuesday

David and Jonathan

1 Samuel 18

Today's idea Heavenly Father blesses us with good friends who love us.

After David's brave day, he met Prince Jonathan — King Saul's son. The two of them became best friends right away. It was like they had known each other forever.

Jonathan loved David so much that he gave David his own beautiful robe and his own bow as a gift. Can you imagine giving your favorite thing to a friend? That is how much Jonathan cared.

Jonathan and David made a promise to each other. They promised to always be kind and to always love each other as brothers, no matter what.

When times were hard for David, Jonathan was there. He stood up for David and helped him feel better. A true friend is one of the greatest gifts Heavenly Father can give us.

You are a child of God, and He knows just the right friends to bring into your life. Good friends help us feel happy and help us be our best selves.

Let's think: Who is a good friend in your life? What makes them so special?

Wednesday

David Chose Kindness

1 Samuel 24

Today's idea We can choose kindness, even when it is hard.

For a while, King Saul was having a very hard time. His heart had become grumpy and worried. He was not being kind to David at all, even though David had done nothing wrong.

One day, David and King Saul ended up in the same dark cave. David had a chance to be unkind back — but he didn't. Instead, David chose to be gentle.

David whispered to himself, “I will not do wrong. Heavenly Father will take care of things.” He trusted God to make everything right.

King Saul heard what David had done, and his own heart softened a little. Even one act of kindness can change the way someone feels.

It is not always easy to be kind when someone is not kind to us. But when we choose kindness anyway, Heavenly Father is so proud of us. He sees our hearts, and He loves us very much.

Let's think: Can you think of a time when it was hard to be kind? What did you choose?

Thursday

Abigail the Peacemaker

1 Samuel 25

Today's idea Wise and kind words can bring peace.

There was a woman named Abigail. She was very wise and very kind. One day a big quarrel was about to break out between two groups of people, and Abigail saw what was happening.

Abigail moved quickly. She packed up a beautiful gift of bread and fruit and other good things, and she hurried to meet David.

She knelt down humbly and spoke soft, gentle words. She said kind and wise things that helped everyone feel calmer. Her gentle heart and her peaceful words stopped the trouble before it even started.

David was so thankful. He said, “Thank goodness you came! Thank goodness for your wise and kind heart.”

When there is trouble or disagreement at home or with friends, you can be like Abigail. Choose gentle words. Choose kindness. Peacemakers make Heavenly Father's heart so very glad.

Let's think: How can you be a peacemaker at home or with a friend?

Friday

Trusting Heavenly Father

1 Samuel 26

Today's idea When things feel unfair, we can trust Heavenly Father to make things right.

There were days when things were not fair for David. King Saul was still being unkind, and David had done nothing to deserve it. It felt sad and confusing.

Again, David had a chance to do something wrong. But he stopped and thought about Heavenly Father. “God loves me,” David said quietly. “He will take care of things in His own way and His own time.”

David chose to wait and trust. He did not try to fix things in a way that would hurt someone else. He put it all in Heavenly Father's hands.

Waiting and trusting can be one of the hardest and bravest things we do. But Heavenly Father always hears us and always cares. He is working — even when we cannot see it yet.

If something feels unfair in your life, you can talk to Heavenly Father about it. He listens. He loves you. And He will help make things right.

Let's think: When something doesn't feel fair, who can you talk to and trust?

Saturday

David Becomes King

2 Samuel 5

Today's idea Heavenly Father's promises always come true.

A very long time ago, when David was just a young shepherd boy, God had made him a promise. God said that one day David would be the king of all Israel. That was a big promise!

Years and years went by. David took care of sheep. He played his harp. He waited and trusted. He was kind and brave and patient.

Then one glorious day, it all came true. The people of Israel came together and made David their king! There was singing and cheering and great happiness.

All those years of being faithful — being kind, being brave, trusting God, waiting patiently — had been part of God's plan all along.

Heavenly Father always keeps His promises. Always. He has promised to love you and be with you forever, and that promise will ALWAYS come true.

Let's think: What is a promise you know Heavenly Father has made to you?

Sunday

God's Beautiful Promise

2 Samuel 7

Today's idea Heavenly Father loves us and makes beautiful promises to us.

King David had a big, loving heart. He looked around at his beautiful palace and thought about Heavenly Father. “God has been so good to me,” he said. “I want to build Him a beautiful house — a temple — where everyone can come and feel close to Him.”

God sent the prophet Nathan to give David a wonderful message. God said, “I love your kind heart, David. I have watched over you. I have blessed you. And your family will always be watched over, because something very special will come from your family one day — something that will bless the whole world.”

David bowed his head and thanked Heavenly Father with all his heart. “You are so good to me,” he said. “I do not deserve all Your love and care.”

But that is just how Heavenly Father is. He loves us not because we are perfect — He loves us because we are His children. He sees us. He knows us. He makes beautiful promises to us.

You are a child of God. And He loves you, just as you are, every single day.
