Monday

Listening to Wise Helpers

1 Kings 12

Today's idea When we listen to wise and kind helpers, we make better choices.

After King Solomon, a new king named Rehoboam began to lead the people. Being a king was a very big job, and he wanted to do it well.

The people came to the new king and gently asked, “Please be kind to us. Please help us and care for us.” It was a good and friendly question.

Some wise, older helpers told the king, “Yes! Be gentle and kind to the people, and they will love you and follow you.” That was very good advice.

But some other young friends told the king something different. They said, “Don't listen to them.” The king had a choice to make about whose advice to follow.

When grown-ups and friends give us advice, we can ask Heavenly Father to help us choose the kind and wise way. Listening to wise helpers makes our hearts and choices better.

Heavenly Father gives us parents, teachers, and a living prophet to help us. When we listen to them, we are choosing the good, gentle path.

Tuesday

Birds Bring Elijah Food

1 Kings 17

Today's idea Heavenly Father takes care of us, even in surprising ways.

There was a good prophet named Elijah who loved Heavenly Father. A prophet is a special helper who listens to God and shares His messages.

One time, there was not much rain, and food was hard to find. Elijah needed something to eat and drink. But Heavenly Father had a wonderful plan to take care of him.

Heavenly Father led Elijah to a little brook of cool, fresh water. Elijah could drink whenever he was thirsty. And then something amazing happened!

Every morning and every evening, birds flew down from the sky carrying bread for Elijah to eat. The birds were Heavenly Father's gentle helpers, bringing food right to him.

Elijah was so thankful. Heavenly Father had taken care of him in a surprising and wonderful way. He always knew just what Elijah needed.

Heavenly Father takes care of you too. Sometimes He helps in surprising ways. He always knows what you need, and He loves you very much.

Wednesday

The Jar That Never Ran Out

1 Kings 17

Today's idea When we share, Heavenly Father blesses us.

Elijah walked to a little town and met a kind mother and her young child. The mother had only a tiny bit of flour and a tiny bit of oil — just enough to make one small loaf of bread.

Elijah gently asked, “Could you please share a little bread with me?” The mother had so little, but she had a kind and giving heart.

Elijah said, “Don't worry. Heavenly Father will take care of us. Your flour and oil will not run out.” The mother believed him, and she shared her bread.

And something wonderful happened! Every time she went to make more bread, there was always enough flour and always enough oil. The little jars never ran out!

Heavenly Father blessed the kind mother because she shared. There was always enough food for her, her child, and Elijah, day after day.

When we share with others, even when we don't have much, Heavenly Father is so pleased. Sharing makes our hearts happy and brings blessings to everyone.

Thursday

Elijah Prays and God Answers

1 Kings 18

Today's idea Heavenly Father is the one true God, and He hears our prayers.

One day, the prophet Elijah gathered many people together on a hill. Some of the people had forgotten about Heavenly Father. Elijah wanted to help them remember how real and wonderful God is.

Elijah built a special altar — a place to worship — out of stones. Then he knelt down to pray. He said, “Heavenly Father, please show everyone that You are real and that You love us.”

All the people watched and waited quietly. Elijah prayed with all his heart, trusting that Heavenly Father would hear him.

And Heavenly Father answered! A warm, bright light came down from heaven, right where Elijah had prayed. Everyone could see it. Heavenly Father had heard Elijah's prayer!

The people were amazed. They remembered that Heavenly Father is the one true God. They felt His love and His power, and their hearts were happy again.

Heavenly Father hears your prayers too. When you pray to Him, He is always listening. He is real, He is good, and He loves you so much.

Friday

The Quiet, Gentle Voice

1 Kings 19

Today's idea Heavenly Father often speaks to us in a quiet, gentle way.

Elijah went to a quiet mountain to be near Heavenly Father. He wanted to hear God and feel close to Him.

First, a big wind blew. But Heavenly Father's voice was not in the loud wind. Then the ground shook. But God's voice was not in the shaking either.

Then everything became very still and very quiet. And in the quiet, Elijah heard a soft, gentle voice — like a calm, warm whisper deep in his heart. It was Heavenly Father speaking to him.

Heavenly Father did not need to be loud. He spoke in a still, small voice, soft and kind. Elijah listened carefully, and his heart felt peaceful and full of love.

Heavenly Father speaks to us in a quiet way too. We call that warm, gentle feeling the Holy Ghost — a kind helper who whispers peace and love to our hearts.

When we are calm and quiet, it is easier to feel that gentle whisper. We can listen with our hearts and feel Heavenly Father's love close to us.

Saturday

Elijah's Helper Elisha

1 Kings 19

Today's idea We can help others learn about Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father told Elijah that he would have a helper and friend. The helper's name was Elisha. Elisha would learn from Elijah and become a prophet too one day.

Elijah found Elisha working hard in a green field. Gently, Elijah placed his warm cloak around Elisha's shoulders. It was a kind way of saying, “Come and help me. Come and follow Heavenly Father with me.”

Elisha was so happy! He wanted to learn about Heavenly Father and help people. He said goodbye to his family and went with Elijah to be his helper and friend.

Elijah taught Elisha many good things. They traveled together, helped people, and shared Heavenly Father's love everywhere they went.

When we help someone learn about Heavenly Father — by being kind, by sharing, or by setting a good example — we are doing something wonderful, just like Elijah and Elisha.

You can be a good helper and friend too. Heavenly Father is glad when we help others feel His love.

Choosing to Follow God

1 Kings 18

Today's idea Every day, we can choose to follow Heavenly Father.

The prophet Elijah loved to help people remember Heavenly Father. He once asked the people a gentle question: “Who will you choose to follow?”

Elijah wanted everyone to know they could choose Heavenly Father with their whole hearts. Choosing God brings peace, love, and happiness.

Choosing to follow Heavenly Father is something we do every single day. We choose Him when we pray, when we are kind, and when we listen to that quiet, gentle voice inside.

Even little children can choose Heavenly Father! You choose Him when you share, when you say sorry, when you help, and when you remember how much He loves you.

Some days are easy and some days are harder, but each new morning we can choose again. We can say, “Today, I want to follow Heavenly Father.”

You are a child of God, and He loves you so much. When you choose to follow Him, your heart will feel His warm, happy love, today and every day.
